Approximately 5,091 individuals (3,279 households) in Columbia County rely on food stamps each month.

As of November 1, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) will be suspended due to the government shutdown.
This poses a serious challenge for families already struggling with rising housing and other essential costs.

The Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood (GHPN)  is mobilizing partners, donors, and volunteers to respond to this crisis.
No contribution is too small; donations of any amount within your means can be made online or by mailing a check made payable to GHPN: 369 Warren Street Hudson NY, 12534

Our goal is to raise at least $100,000 by the end of November.

This will allow us to provide grocery store gift cards to families in need, roughly equivalent to what they were receiving from SNAP. At GHPN, we believe in the dignity and worth of every person, and we trust that families know best what they need to feed themselves. Gift cards allow families to shop at stores they choose and select foods that work for their households.

With food pantries not accessible to all County residents and ongoing challenges with food supply, this is the most direct and impactful way to support our neighbors. It also ensures that individuals and families who are unhoused or otherwise unable to prepare meals at home can purchase food they can readily use.
